CR 08-013 - GDSN Code List Simplification (Phase 1) BRAD
Background: The GSMP GDSN Code List Improvement Work Group was charged with the task to reduce complexity & remove ambiguity when specifying various packaging configurations in all levels of a trade item hierarchy. Specifically the work group was to eliminate confusion in the Pallet Type Code list, Packaging Type Code list, and Packaging Material Code list. NOTE Please read the full document carefully for example Appendix E shows which codes are Deprecated and their replacement code value.
Several users, data pools, and GS1 Member Organizations, submitted the codes being used, in their marketplace, for item packaging, pallet, and packaging material. This and the current code lists became the starting point for the work groups effort. After the initial analysis of the current code values and the other attributes within the pallet and packaging sub-classes, the group concluded the only way to resolve the issue was to provide a definitive set of codes and attributes that together will serve the information needs of our diverse community. The various packaging levels and the associated materials are meant to work together to precisely relate the information for the item. It is envisioned each (Item Packaging, Material, and Pallet-Platform) will be defined as a reusable sub-class and were evaluated as a whole during public review and thus for the eballot.
CR 09-000039 - clarify and simplify definition of the “Trade Unit Descriptor” attribute
Proposal: The current definitions and code list for use of “Trade Unit Descriptor” attribute are not clear andsometimes conflicting. Unclear definitions and non consistent use of the unit descriptor attribute are causing implementation issues. Some current unit descriptor descriptions/definitions indicate that they might be intended for display: • MX definition says that it is display ready. • DS definition says that it is display OR it contains multiple instances of GTIN. At the same time there are some attributes communicating if the product is display ready. New “Display Ready” and “Full Display” attributes are available. The need for communication which level is display ready should not be tied to unit descriptor. There is a need to remove indication if item is “displayable” from unit descriptor. The current ones are ambiguous and limited to some values only. Any level of packaging hierarchy can be possibly “displayable”. Attached document provides detailed recommendation for simplification of unit descriptor attributes: gradual removal of MX, DS, AP and updated definitions of remaining values.
CR 09-052 - Add two new values to the code list for promotional Type Code
Adds two new values to the enumeration for promotionalTypeCode to identify two situations: A) Code Value “SPECIAL_PACKAGING” = A new presentation for the consumer trade item for a promotion decided by the brand owner. It could be e.g. : • A special Tin Box to package the consumer trade item Code Value “FREE_GIFT_ATTACHED”- would be a free object linked to the consumer trade item (not a sample), e.g. • A free glass, or a free recipe book, ...
These type of promotions listed above imply a new GTIN for the consumer trade item and has no impact on the product content or on the price. Expected Benefit: To be able to describe such promotion types Business Purpose:
To be able to describe such promotion types To track sales for this kind of promotion from sales for other kind of promotion or from non promotional sales (promotion effectiveness) To underline consumer advantages that offer this kind of promotion To plan a personalized presentation at the point of sale or in a promotional leaflet, connected to this kind of promotion
CR 09-068 - Change the definitions of 3 ingredient attributes to be more generic
Changes the definitions of the attributes "Ingredient Strength", "Generic Ingredient, and "Generic Ingredient =Strength" to genericize them by removing the reference to pharmaceutical trade items. Expected Benefits: These attributes can be used for more products than just pharmaceuticals. Some examples are pesticides, insectrepellents, fertilizers, and household cleaners. This will allow for accurate communication of this information. The current use of the attributes is still valid.
Business Purpose: This change is to allow extended use of an existing attribute as opposed to creating new specific =attributes for the same purpose. Business clarification note - These items can use these attributes to define their ingredients and potencies and are not considered pharmaceuticals: Ingredient strength can refer to herbicides and pesticides, household cleaners, over the counter medications and vitamins.
CR 09-073 - Allow Indication of he origin agency of a deposit code
Enables users to indicate the origin agency of a deposit code provided for the trade item. There will only be one deposit code list per agency and one agency per packaging.
Expected Benefits: Deposit codes for packages (i.e. bottles, crates, pallets) is important information to support an efficient order to payment process for trade items that have a package or platform with an associated deposit. The use of deposit codes supports automatic invoice matching when the deposit amounts appear on invoices. In the current version of Trade Item it is possible to enter a deposit code indicating the deposit. However, deposit codes are not global, so there is a need to specify the agency of the deposit code list used. In some cases the GS1 MO manages the code list for its market, but there may be other code list agencies.
