10-241 Public Review, GDSN BRG

The 30 day Public Review for CR 10-241 begins Aug-19-2010 and ends Sep-20-2010 extended due to USA Holiday. CR 10-241 Proposal: 05-Aug-2010: Enable the ability to communicate the following information in the "foodAndBeverageMicrobiologicalInformation" class of attributes:
A. Organism Reference Value - Reference values give an indication of which product specific ranges of micro organisms are to be expected and which micro organism contents in the appropriate food products are acceptable due to hygiene rules. Per definition this value reflects A microbiological limit which, in a 2-class plan, separates good quality from defective quality or, in a 3-class plan, separates good quality from marginally acceptable quality. With regard to the audit of the production processes exceeding the microbiological reference limit means, it indicates there are leak points in the production process and the hygienic situation needs to be increased.

B. Organism Warning Value- Exceeding the limits of the allowed content of micro organisms defined as warning values indicating there is a poor quality of the hygiene standard in the food production. This would probably lead to health hazards. A microbiological limit which, in a 3-class plan, separates marginally acceptable quality from defective quality.

Both attributes are "optional" and not repeatable. Both attributes require a measurement data type. Typically they are expressed in NIU's (Number of International Units). The UOM code list category for NIU is "count". This Public review contains a Link to CR 10-241 in the CR System, An AVP spreadsheet and the BR Queue for CR 10-241. Call-to-Action

Join the newly formed Tag Data & Translation Standards Mission Specific Working Group

This working group is a Mission Specific Working Group that will produce updates to an existing GS1 EPCglobal Standards, or specifically a Standards Development Group under the New GSMP. This is not a maintenance group and the scope of work is considered to be complex. To start with, this scope of work is driven by user input from primarily two areas that impact the forthcoming  issuance of the Tag Data Standard (version 1.5) to produce a new version of the TDS, Version 1.6:
a.  Add two new EPCglobal headers to meet Statement of Business Needs for Aerospace and Defense Industry User Group
b.  Address Consumer Choice requirements from the EPCglobal Tag Alterations, Item Level Tagging, and EAS Joint Requirements Groups

Other scope of work items are as follows:
1. Updating the Tag Data Translation (TDT 1.4) to make it current with all headers defined in TDS 1.6 as listed above
2. Develop Conformance Requirements to provide the basis for certifying suppliers of software and encoders of EPC tags  per the TDS 1.6

If you have technical experience with developing previous versions of the Tag Data Standard, Tag Data Translation, the General Specification; or you have business experience associated with the develop of the requirements that lead to the creation of this charter, you are encouraged to join. Please note: This Working Group will operate under the EPCglobal IP Policy. This was a board approved deviation for the purpose of expediting this work effort in the new GSMP process.  To join this group, your company must first submit one of the following:
    • EPCglobal IP Policy and TDTS MSWG Opt-In Agreement
or
    • GS1 IP Policy, GS1 to EPCglobal Acknowledgement Form and TDTS MSWG Opt-In Agreement

Please refer to the Opt-In Agreement for more information about the scope of this group and instructions to join. If you have questions, please contact Mark Frey at mark.frey@gs1.org

Also note, that we plan to have a Face-to-Face kick-off meeting at the GS1 Industry and Standards Event in Amsterdam. This group will meet on Monday afternoon, September 27 and again on Tuesday morning on September 28.  For information about the Amsterdam event, click here.

New Releases

GS1 EPCglobal Tag Data Standard v 1.5

This standard defines  EPC tag data, including how key GS1 key identifiers are encoded on the tag and how they are encoded for use in the information systems layers of the EPC Systems Network. Version 1.5 further defines Tag Identification including the XTID header as well as the EPCglobal User Memory Bank which provides a variable size memory to store additional data attributes such as those defined by the GS1 Application Identifiers and related to the object identified in the EPC Memory Bank of the tag. For a more detailed summary of the changes since TDS 1.4 was published, read the informative overview presentation or refer to the beginning of the section in TDS 1.5 titled, "Differences From EPC Tag Data Standard Version 1.4."

GS1 EPCglobal Certificate Profile v2.0 Standard

On June 10th,  the EPCglobal Board Ratified version 2 of the Certificate Profile Specification. The previous version of this standard used GLNs as part of the digital certificate to identify RFID readers. In order to support additional identification keys, this version deprecates the GLN in favour of the EPC URN defined in the Tag Data Standard.  With the URN notation, any GS1 key, including the GLN, may be included in the digital certificate in a standard form.
