GDSN WG
Major Release 3.1 GDSN Board has approved a Major release to take place (MR3.1). This also has been referred by the term Modular Item or Mod Item. The estimation of implementation could be anywhere between 2013-15, this is only a guess by me and no firm date has been established. A new work group will be formed to start looking at the development and planning of Mod Item.

GS1 Keys Validation - Global Company Prefix Validation: a project is analyzing a new process to help the GDSN community on validating the GTIN carries a valid Global Company Prefix (GCP). Some of the GS1 MOs are seeing about 3-4% error in GTIN numbering without valid GCP's. The business requirements for this are still being developed.

Service/Digital Item GTINs - There are discussions happening on how best to communicate Digital downloads, service item, etc that have no physical properties. Additionally are service and digital items different in their communication needs.

Reminder: Public Review - Minor Release 5, BMS 2.8
The next release of MR5 is available for comments. This release will contain new attributes, new extensions Plumbing, Books, Chemical Ingredient, new validations and also the move of some old extensions into core Trade Item
