GSMP / GDSN Meetings in Brussels 14-17 April, 2008
Brussels
14-17 April, 2008
Efficient Code Lists
- The workgroup began a review of the packaging Type and packaging Material Type code lists
- Workgroup determined that it was necessary to review and clarify the definitions of the attributes before working on the code list values
- The definitions were clarified and agreed upon
- An understanding of these uses for the attributes and code values was vreated for each attribute
- The next step will be to begin with a list of the obvious codes needed to support current business requirements. These will be very basic.
- After the list of basic codes is identified, then any additional, more granular ones that are needed will be made known as change requests are submitted.
GDSN Modular Item
- A session was held to understand the status of the GDD review sub-team, to review public comments, and to review the BRAD again at a high level for those attendees that have not participated regularly
- GDD Review Sub-team
- 13 Change Requests have been submitted and approved
- Modifications will be made to parts of the current model to remove issues and constraints
- GDD Review Sub-team
- 13 Change Requests have been submitted and approved
- Modifications will be made to parts of the current model to remove issues and constraints
- Two extensions have been eliminated, and it may be possible to eliminate two more
- Most Fast Track and new Item Form attributes have been reviewed for either relocation into the permanent model or for removal
- Several attributes have been forwarded to the Price, Party, Healthcare and Food & Beverage workgroups for their review and recommendation. These attributes could be possibly added to their models instead of being carried in the current item model
- End State Sub-team
- The Business Requirements Analysis Document (BRAD) has been in public review for nearly one month, The review period concludes the end of April
- The Business Requirements Analysis Document (BRAD) has been in public review for nearly one month, The review period concludes the end of April
- To-date, no comments have been received in the Community Room
- Two comments were made during the presentation of the BRAD in Brussels
- It will be important that all data pools support all attributes and extensions in order to facilitate the deployment and use of the modular item concept. Today, not all data pools provide this level of support.
- The GSMP process will need to support the introduction of new attributes to ensure no duplication is created.
- Next Steps
- The GDD Review Sub-team has about 15 New Item Form attributes left to review to complete the final round of revisions to complete a change request to find a permanent solution for all Fast Track and new Item Form attributes. This review should only require one more conference call.
- The GDD group will look at the feasibility of removing two more extensions and check once more to ensure all existing constraints have been addressed.
- Consider combining the Office Supply and Hardlines extensions into a single one
- Consider elimination of the FMCG extension and relocation of the remaining attributes into the Food and Beverage extension or core item
- The End State Sub-team will address any comments received relative to the BRAD at the conclusion of the public review period.
- Once all comments are addressed, the Modular Item Workgroup will be asked to motion the BRAD to the 14 day eBallot period
- It is anticipated the Modular item Workgroup will complete its work by the end of May

Project Prioritization
- Architecture committee met during the Brussels meeting to analyze the impact of the projects on the data pools, networks and trading partners.
- There was a significant concern on the part of the user community that the process is not very transparent
- The voting results were not made known initially (later the ranking resulting from the vote was shown (see below)
- The documentation supporting the projects is very sparse and does not truly commu8nicate the scope of each project
- Some projects do not require technical solutions nor Board prioritization
- After the data pool and GSMP analyses are completed, GDSN Inc. decides which project to recommend to the Board for funding – not all projects are recommended
