CR 08-215 - Target Market subdivision

The eBallot for CR 08-215 was motioned to eballot by the GDSN BRG on 27-April-2010;  there were no comments received during Public review. Proposal:  The current data synchronization standard does not clearly address how to perform two major functions when the Target Market Subdivision Code is populated in one or both of the Catalog Item Subscription (CIS) and Catalog Item Publication (CIP) messages. The distribution of subscriptions to data pools by the Global Registry, and the publication / subscription match processes need to be fully aligned across all data pools. Due to the complexity of using the Subdivision in this processing, remove this functionality from the Subscription and Publication messages and processes. Retain the attribute in the Registration message (RCI) and Global Registry. This processing should be a requirement of all data pools in the network and added to the GDSN certification use cases.

NOTE: As a short term interim solution, the Global Registry will revise the subscription match process to exclude Target market Subdivision Code values from the match criteria. For any subscriptions or item registrations, the Global Registry will only match to the Target market Code value, not the Subdivision Code. The longer term solution will be to additionally remove the Target Market Subdivision Code from the GDSN Catalog Item Publication (CIP) and Catalog Item Subscription (CIS) messages. This eBallot contains a link to CR 08-215 in the CR System, a 08-215 Target Market Subdivision Code Proposal Document and a 08-215 GDSN Business requirement spreadsheet. Simple Level of Impact 3

GS1 Community Announcements

New GSMP Website Launched!

We are happy to announce the launch of the redesigned GSMP website, which represents the integration of the processes that were previously referred to as GSMP and EPCglobal Standards Development Process (SDP).  As such, the new GSMP website supports ALL GS1 Standards development processes (EPC, GDSN, Barcodes, eCom, etc.).  In addition to the integration, the new website improves both access and organization of all content including:
•    Information about how GSMP operates
•    GS1 IP Policy Resource Library
•    GSMP Work Requests
•    The new combined GSMP\EPC Knowledge Centre

Visit the website at www.gs1.org/gsmp

Prepare for the new GSMP - Sign the GS1 IP Policy!

The New Global Standards Management Process (GSMP) was officially launched on the 19th of April 2010, bringing together the best processes from both EPCglobal Standards Development Process and the GSMP. Work currently underway in EPCglobal Standards Development Process and GSMP will continue in the existing standards processes until its conclusion, unless there is a reason for transitioning the work item into the new process. However, any new complex work order (Change Request) submitted after the April launch date will be developed under the new GSMP model.

Something else is new about the New GSMP: After 19 April 2010, any company wishing to participate in new GSMP Groups must sign the GS1 IP Policy and Opt-In Agreement. If a company has already signed the EPCglobal IP Policy or the MobileCom IP Policy, then they simply sign the Acknowledgement Form. To learn more about the GS1 IP Policy or to sign documents now, visit the IP Resource Library website at www.gs1.org/ip

It is intended for any stakeholder that handles goods related to food in the supply chain: such as producers, manufacturers, processors, logistics service providers, transporters/carriers, retailers, wholesalers, importers/exporters, storage/deposit providers and container/packaging manufacturers in the food supply chain.

Retail Supply Chain Industry User Group (RSC IUG)

The new Retail Supply Chain Industry User Group (RSC IUG) being formed as a result of implementing the Organisational Effectiveness program, met at the Industry & Standards Event last month in Orlando. Unfortunately, many of our European members and Member Organisations were unable to attend these sessions due to the flight restrictions resulting from the Icelandic volcano. Those Orlando sessions were originally intended to complete the process of defining the RSC IUG's charter, vision, mission, structure and to elect co-chairs for the IUG and sub groups. Although some excellent work was undertaken in Orlando, the complete group needs to meet face to face again to complete this work. That meeting will take place in Houston, USA, on the 14th and 15th of June. The precise location will depend upon the number of attendees so we would like to assess how many there could be.

We encourage everyone who wishes to participate in this important work to register in the RSC IUG Community Room at http://community.gs1.org/apps/org/workgroup/retailsciug/ and to notify Laurence Genot of their intention to attend the face to face meeting. Precise details of the meeting location will be given on a registration site nearer to the time of the meeting. Please could you notify Laurence the 18th of May. If you have any questions about this event then please contact Ian Robertson at ian.robertson@gs1.org .

Approved GSMP Standards

Note: Due to issues with an upgrade to the BLOG software, no new information has been posted for the past few weeks. Those issues have been resolved and the BLOG will continue.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The following two standards change requests have been approved and will be implemented in the appropriate future GDSN network releases:

CR 10-040 - Pharmaceutical Strength

Enables users to indicate the strength for pharmaceuticals expressed as numeric values. To enable flexibility for different kinds of strengths, a generic solution is needed. The solution must enable indication of strength as a combination of two measurements with measurement unit (compound unit) Examples:
• 400 milligrams per 1000 millillitres
• 550 milliliters per 1 each

In addition there is a need to specify a coded identification of the ingredient type (in addition to text) and allow for multiple ingredients + strength to be specified. This eBallot contains a link to CR 10-040 in the CR system, a CR 10-040 Example Active Ingredients from GS1 Canada for GS1 Sweden document, a 10-040 Fast track attributes for pharmaceutical strength document and the Business Requirement Spreadsheet. Simple Level of Impact 3

Amendment Posted on 4/14/2010: an AVP attribute was added to the other 3 AVP already included in CR 10-040 eBallot as part of a vote comment resolution discussion. See document "10-040 Fast track attributes for Pharmaceutical strength - On April-14-2010 AVP added" document

CR 10-044 - Transport Load

Enables the ability to define and provide information on GTINs which are parents of a pallet (Ex. Truck Load, Container, Rail Car, Ship, etc).  To accomplish this the trade item unit descriptor needs to be expanded to include a descriptor for the parent of a pallet.  The name of this unit needs to be generic so as to allow for the various types of parents there may be so it the proposal to name it “Transport Load”.  There will also need to be a change to the BMS rules to allow a pallet to have a parent.  It is also recommended to allow this new descriptor to have a parent as well.  This will allow for growth as you could have 20 pallets in a container, and 2 containers in a rail car. Simple Level of Impact 2.

NOTE 1: CR 10-044 uses assigned GTIN’s at the level above platform and in GDSN BRG discussion this has been termed “transport load”. This eBallot contained a link to CR 10-044 in the CR system,  an attachment for Validation Rules 554-555 557-561, a CR 10-044 Transport Load Information v2 spreadsheet and the Business Requirement Spreadsheet.

NOTE 2: The eCom Logistics Group was surveyed to see if they have a better name than Transport Load and if they come up with a phrase that GDSN BRG likes it will be used applied to this requirement as errata.
