Public Review

CR 07-050 - GDSN Modular Trade Item BMS Package including Technical Solution (TSD) - Second Public Review of TSD Based on Comment Resolution
The current design of the trade item data model creates limitations and constraints on the business usage of the item information communicated through the Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN) inhibiting its use by many users. In response to this challenge and the need to bring new industries into the GDSN, a more modular and flexible Trade Item model is required to better meet the business needs of sectors currently participating in the GDSN as well as sectors looking to participate in the future. The intention of this Business Message Standard (BMS) is to provide the message designs and process changes necessary to perform trade item synchronisation in the Global Data Synchronisation Network using a more flexible, context based trade item. This BMS Package includes the BSD outlining the Catalogue Item Synchronisation Process using a modular design. This package also contains the necessary schemas and xml example files for the Catalogue Item Synchronisation Process using a modular design. Please note that this is a 14 Days Public Review focusing on comments resolution of last Public Review which ended on January 12th. These changes are documented in the Change History of the Modular Item BMS Document under Version 0.08. Start Date is 4-March-2010 and End Date is 18-March-2010 COB.

GSMP Community Announcements (4)

Public Review: New GSMP Manual
GSMP and EPC share a common mission: leading the global community in the development of global standards to improve the efficiency and security of the supply chain. Joining our two standards processes will benefit GS1 users at large. The new model of GSMP was approved by the GS1 Board Committed for Standards (BCS) and communicated at the Joint Event in Los Angeles, April 2009. This model brings together the "best of breed" from both of today's processes:
• An industry driven engagement model reflective of EPCglobal's current methods for bringing community needs into the standards process
• A committee structure similar to GSMP, with standing bodies handling maintenance change requests and ad hoc work groups (JRG's) handling development change requests
• An EPC-like two step development model for technical standards (i.e. Air Interface Protocols) in which business users develop the requirements and technical communities develop the technical solution.
The next step in this initiative is to deliver a New GSMP Manual, which is now available for public review. Please use the Community Room comment feature to make any comments on the New GSMP Manual by 4 PM ET 26-Mar-2010 (Close of Public Review).
Please use the following Link to review and comment on the New GSMP Manual: New GSMP DRAFT Manual and Comment Form To submit comments, use the "Add a Comment " feature located at the link above.  Please reference the document line number for each comment. All comments and their resolutions will be posted for review when completed.

Formation of New GSMP Governance Bodies, Call for Nominations
Process Oversight Committee - Call for Nominations
Technical Standards Committee - Call for Nominations
Architecture Group - Call for Nominations
Dear Members of the GS1 Community,
The new GSMP includes the formation of a new governance structure intended to support the GSMP Board Committee for Standards (BCS) in their role.  Effective governance of GSMP requires the involvement of leaders from the GS1 community in order to assure the GSMP meets their needs and the principles of openness, transparency and a user driven process.  This communication is to request community participation in the governance of the new GSMP.
Roles:
Process Oversight Committee (POC)
The POC is an advisory body whose primary role is to assist the BCS in the oversight of the GSMP and ensure that the process is being followed and that business critical standards are delivered with world-class efficiency. The POC assists the BCS to ensure that the work efforts within the GSMP are correctly designed to match the needs of the global community, and ensures that committed trading partners are identified and engaged. The POC also ensures that the principles set out in the GSMP Charter are observed and that due process is followed in all aspects.
Technical Standards Committee (TSC)
The purpose of the TSC is to assist the POC to ensure that the work efforts in GSMP are correctly designed to match the needs of the global community, and that the trading partners who are committed participants in the development and piloting are identified. The TSC also ensures that the principles set out in the GSMP Charter are observed and that due process is followed in all aspects of technical standards.  The scope of the TSC duties is limited to the development and maintenance of EPC/RFID technical standards.  This role can be expanded in the future.
Architecture Group (AG)
The GS1 Architecture Group is an advisory body to the BCS whose primary responsibility is to develop and document the GS1 System Architecture and, by reference to the architecture, assures the technical integrity, consistency and efficient interoperation of the GS1 System.
Applying For Membership
Candidates should be industry leaders, recognized in leading industry venues (ie., GCI, ECR, etc.) and should have the backing of a senior level person in their organization.  Interested applicants can apply by completing the nomination form (links below) and forwarding it to Kelly Rhoades at kelly.rhoades@gs1.org
Please note that all applicants are required to provide senior management authorization stating that their organization fully supports the applicant's time and travel expenses required for completion of work assigned.  Members of all governance groups (core & sub teams) will be required to sign the GS1 Intellectual Property Agreement.  TSC and AG members must Opt-In to work groups in order to perform their duties within the group (see section 6.4.1, Automatic Opt-In, Explicit Opt-out, etc.).
The nomination period for applying for the groups membership ends COB April 2nd, 2010.

Kind regards,
GS1 Communications Team

CR 10-045 Public Review, GDSN BRG
The Public Review for CR 10-045 begins Mar-4-2010 and ends Mar-18-2010. CR 10-045 Proposal: The trade item needs the ability to define and provide information on whether a GTIN at a consumer unit level can be special ordered and delivered directly to a consumer.   Note: This can be handled by adding the distribution method code which included “Direct to Consumer” to the Trade Item and associating it with the existing orderingLeadTime. These attributes could then repeat to handle lead times for multiple types of distribution methods. Rules: If the GTIN can be shipped direct-to-consumer, then ordering lead time can be communicated so the data recipient can communicate how long it should take for the delivery to the consumer. This information is Target Market specific and Trading Partner Dependent. This information should be populated on trade items which are marked as consumer units. This Public review contains a link to CR 10-045 in the CR system and the Business Requirement Spreadsheet. Please make your comments 4 PM ET on 18-Mar-2010 Close of Public Review. CR 10-058 Public Review, GDSN BRG
The Public Review for CR 10-058 begins Mar-4-2010 and ends Mar-18-2010. Proposal: 10-058 Proposal: 15-Feb-2010: The orderingUnitOfMeasure is declared as Global and T.P.Neutral in the "9.1. Appendix A: Attribute Variations" section of the BMS Trade Item Sync standard. This attribute should be changed to Global/Lcal. NOTE: the Code List Enhancement WG: A decision was made by the Code List Enhancement Workgroup to propose  associating only the Trade Item Unit Descriptor Code list with the attributes “sellingUnitOfMeasure” and “orderingUnitOfMeasure (this may remain as it currently is, a string value with no code list). by Please make your comments 4 PM ET on 18-Mar-2010 Close of Public Review.
