Public Reviews

10-241 Public Review, GDSN BRG

The 30 day Public Review for CR 10-241 begins Aug-19-2010 and ends Sep-20-2010 extended due to USA Holiday. CR 10-241 Proposal: 05-Aug-2010: Enable the ability to communicate the following information in the "foodAndBeverageMicrobiologicalInformation" class of attributes:
A. Organism Reference Value - Reference values give an indication of which product specific ranges of micro organisms are to be expected and which micro organism contents in the appropriate food products are acceptable due to hygiene rules. Per definition this value reflects A microbiological limit which, in a 2-class plan, separates good quality from defective quality or, in a 3-class plan, separates good quality from marginally acceptable quality. With regard to the audit of the production processes exceeding the microbiological reference limit means, it indicates there are leak points in the production process and the hygienic situation needs to be increased.

B. Organism Warning Value- Exceeding the limits of the allowed content of micro organisms defined as warning values indicating there is a poor quality of the hygiene standard in the food production. This would probably lead to health hazards. A microbiological limit which, in a 3-class plan, separates marginally acceptable quality from defective quality.

Both attributes are "optional" and not repeatable. Both attributes require a measurement data type. Typically they are expressed in NIU's (Number of International Units). The UOM code list category for NIU is "count". This is not a maintenance group and the scope of work is considered to be complex. To start with, this scope of work is driven by user input from primarily two areas that impact the forthcoming issuance of the Tag Data Standard (version 1.5) to produce a new version of the TDS, Version 1.6:
a. Add two new EPCglobal headers to meet Statement of Business Needs for Aerospace and Defense Industry User Group
b. Address Consumer Choice requirements from the EPCglobal Tag Alterations, Item Level Tagging, and EAS Joint Requirements Groups

Other scope of work items are as follows:
1. Updating the Tag Data Translation (TDT 1.4) to make it current with all headers defined in TDS 1.6 as listed above
2. Develop Conformance Requirements to provide the basis for certifying suppliers of software and encoders of EPC tags per the TDS 1.6

If you have technical experience with developing previous versions of the Tag Data Standard, Tag Data Translation, the General Specification; or you have business experience associated with the develop of the requirements that lead to the creation of this charter, you are encouraged to join. Please note: This Working Group will operate under the EPCglobal IP Policy. This was a board approved deviation for the purpose of expediting this work effort in the new GSMP process. To join this group, your company must first submit one of the following:
    • EPCglobal IP Policy and TDTS MSWG Opt-In Agreement
or
    • GS1 IP Policy, GS1 to EPCglobal Acknowledgement Form and TDTS MSWG Opt-In Agreement

Please refer to the Opt-In Agreement for more information about the scope of this group and instructions to join.
GSMP Community Announcements

Call to action - GDSN Irregular TI / HI Work Group CR 08-228

This is a GSMP Step 2 Call-to-Action to recruit users to continue the GSMP Step 1 effort GDSN Irregular TI HI Work Group. We ask for those from all industries and from everywhere in the world to bring their expertise, commitment, and contribution to this Project. In June, 2009, a Business Case team was authorized to create a Business Case Document to examine the problem and opportunity surrounding the current confusion when irregular pallet information is published in GDSN. Without accurate pallet information, optimization of transport planning is defeated. With the Business Case having been published (Step 1 of GSMP completed), this Call to Action is being issued to recruit users to GSMP Step 2, Requirements gathering.

To learn more about the GDSN Irregular TI HI Work Group (WG) and to join, please click here to read the Call to Action .

Message from Chris Adcock, President Industry Engagement

"I am pleased to announce the publication of the first edition of the Industry Engagement Guide. This guide sets out the purpose and objectives of the GS1 Global Office Industry Engagement Team and the processes followed in our engagement with industry, our Member Organisations and external teams.

The document is the result of a year's hard work and dedication by a team drawn from all parts of our GS1 community and was compiled in partnership with our colleagues from System Development. The contributors are listed in the introduction and I would like to thank each one of them for their valuable contribution to this work.

We expect to refine the document over time based upon experience of using the processes and policies within it. We will soon produce a shorter and more concise overview to Industry Engagement so that our community can understand the basic principles and process flows of Industry Engagement without having to consult the much more detailed Industry Engagement Guide."

The Industry Engagement Guide can be downloaded from: http://www.gs1.org/docs/ie/GS1_Industry_Engagement_Guide.pdf.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

GS1 Community Announcements and Public Review

GDSN Trade Item Implementation Guide, Trade Item Weight

This Public review begins on 01-Jul-2010 and ends on 29-Jul-2010. The GDSN Trade Item Implementation Guide Work Group is presenting an update to the existing Net Weight topic which is part of the GDSN Trade Item Implementation Guide. With the addition of Gross Weight to the topic, it has been renamed Trade Item Weight. You only need to review the updates which are highlighted in yellow. The original Trade Item Implementation Guide was delivered in January of 2007. The guide's objective is to supplement the formal GS1 GDSN standards with advice on their implementation and operation. It is in no way normative or definitive and is not a standard. It includes implementation guides for a variety of the more complicated issues. This public review is only for the Trade Item Weight topic. Once approved it will be placed into the GDSN Trade Item Implementation Guide, which is located on the GS1 website. This document is posted for a public review on a motion of the Trade Item Implementation Guide Work Group. Please make your comments by 4 PM ET, 01-Jul-2010.

Public Review for Trade Item Weight Implementation Guide is located here.

Community Announcements

EPCglobal implementation guidelines approved for consumer electronics, pallet tagging and conveyance asset tags

The EPCglobal board and GS1 Board Committee for Standards (BCS) have recently approved three new implementation guidelines for EPCglobal standards:

The Implementation Guide for the use of GS1 EPCglobal Standards in the Consumer Electronics Supply Chain provides an introduction to the CE supply chain, the GS1 organisation and GS1 standards specifically concerning EPCglobal. GS1 EPCglobal supports the global adoption of the Electronic Product Code (EPC) as a global standard to enable accurate information and visibility about products in the supply chain. Key implementation procedures indicating where and how EPCglobal standards could be used and the benefits achieved are outlined.

The Conveyance Asset Tag (CAT) Environmental Testing - Technical Implementation Guide provides guidance for use of Passive RFID devices to label and or identify on Conveyance Asset Tags (CAT). The intent of this document is to bring clarity to the level of testing required for RFID devices throughout the transportation industry. "The Implementation Guide will help ensure RFID tags are manufactured to withstand the rigors of a global supply chain, and ultimately provide end-users improved understanding of how to apply EPC Gen II RFID technology to transportation assets," commented Tony Hollis, Director of product development and innovation for DHL Supply Chain Americas and Co-Chair of GS1 EPCglobal's Transportation & Logistics Services Industry Action Group (TLS IAG).

The RTI (Pallet Tagging) Interest Group Guideline includes:
• Detailed descriptions of multi-party business use cases that consider the need for identification and management of pallets
• Requirements that relate to what data is to be captured in user memory portion of tag, how it is to be maintained, security considerations
All of these guidelines are available to download from http://www.epcglobalinc.org/standards/implementation_guidelines/. The current model does not support cases where products comply to different regulatory acts given by different organisations. This change is already scheduled to be solved by a future major release of GDSN; this change request was submitted to ensure this necessary upgrade gets considered sooner, for the next maintenance release (MR-4).

This eBallot contains a link to CR 10-155 in the CR system, and the Business Requirement Spreadsheet. Voting results for this ballot are available at: http://community.gs1.org/apps/org/workgroup/gsmp_g_gdsn_brg/ballot.php?id=748

CR 10-165 eBallot, GDSN BRG (Amendment Posted on 6/16/2010) SA2 change request on behalf of GS1 Finland

1.
